"VIVRE DE MA CAMPAGNE" HOMESTAY HOLIDAYS IN MOROCCO

Homestay in Morocco

UNIQUE HOLIDAYS IN MOROCCO STAYING WITH FAMILIES IN TRADITIONAL RURAL VILLAGES

Let the "Vivre de Ma Campagne" Association help you set up your own customised Moroccan experience, staying in traditional rural family homes. Treks in the Atlas Mountains can be arranged, as well as a range of other activities: you can travel across the desert with Nomads, participate in workshops that will teach you the basics of traditional handcrafts (e.g. pottery, tadlak or carpet making), try out traditional building techniques or plaster sculpture, learn how to do a massage, or learn about spicey Moroccan cuisine.

Activities more commonly associated with holidays in Europe, such as scuba diving, snorkelling, quiet beach holidays, windsurfing and even snow sports can also be arranged. Everything is possible in MOROCCO, and you will be amazed at the reasonable prices!

The holidays suggested on our website are organised by theme. You can take the basic holiday only "Live the Life of the Locals", or add other activities, if you prefer. Click on Homestay Holidays by Theme to look at all our suggestions, or click on the map of MOROCCO (above) to find holidays specific to each region.

Alternatively, you can choose a region of Morocco and tour around it, accompanied by a fellah (smallholder), who will act as your guide.
However, staying a few days with one family, and getting to know them, is for many people what makes these homestay holidays in Morocco such an enriching experience. (Click on the map to see what activities are available in each region.)

Fantasia Festival

When you stay at a hotel, your money stays in the town. When you sleep in a tent it stays with the trip organiser, who cuts out lots of middlemen by only having to pay one or two muleteers, to transport tents and provisions. When you stay with the homeowner, your money helps to combat rural exodus and is redistributed to local people! It’s all a state of mind...

Illegal immigration into Europe from Morocco begins with the drift from the land and the departure of young people from their villages. Some host families have lost their sons at sea. Many others wait in vain for news.

It is unbridled consumerism that motivates young people to leave. The "Vivre Ma Campagne" Association's purpose is to prevent these young people’s identities, and even their souls from being destroyed: to protect them from being reduced to mere consumers, becoming more and more grasping. The aim is to help the young to recognise the value of their families’ traditional way of life, so that their culture of living off the land does not disappear altogether, destroyed by mass exodus.

The idea is not to prevent people benefitting from what modern technology has to offer, but rather to prevent them from idolising city shops, satellite dishes, 4x4 vehicles and other material goods. By showing interest in their work, and by staying with them as paying guests, you will benefit these people by enabling them to live a little more comfortably: not to mention the additional benefit gained from contact with people from different cultures, that will help break the feeling of isolation.

If through your travel you want to serve a useful purpose, this concept allows you to do this.

You will have realised that we do not look only at aesthetic landscape or tourist services when we are looking for Moroccan host families; but this does not mean that we do not appreciate the beauty and the cultural interest of our country.

We also take into account the attractions that will make your holiday with us more enjoyable. For example, where there is a choice between two neighbouring villages, one of which has a river where you can swim safely, and the other which has not, then obviously we choose the first one! Unfortunately, not all village problems can be solved by your visit. However, it will at least help to alleviate them.
