FACT SHEET
Duration:
8 days/7 nights full board

Your crew:
A guide, the muleteers and their mules

Climate/Clothing:
At altitude, the air is thinner than at sea level. The rays of the sun are fiercer and less filtered, so it is essential to take adequate precautions to avoid burning. (Children's eyes and skin are even more vulnerable than adult's.)
The same low air density causes significant variations in temperature, so you should carry a fleece and a waterproof in your backpack. The air is dry, so dehydration is another hazard to be avoided.
While suncream should not be forgotten, wearing long, lightweight clothing is even more effective. Good sunglasses are also essential.
Although it does not often rain in Morocco, in the mountains, the weather is unpredictable; so you should come prepared for rain, just in case.

Bring with you

General:
Your luggage is transported by a mule. You should bring a strong bag for this purpose (one per person): for example a holdall, sports bag or backpack – but not a suitcase. You should also bring.a small day pack. TIP: bring one or two plastic bags or bin liners to go inside your bags, for extra waterproof protection.

Head:
Bring a wide brimmed hat, sunglasses, and a headband - to protect your ears and forehead.

Hands:
1 pair of gloves or mittens.

Body:
A light T-shirt made from man-made fibres, together with a fleece, and a Gore-Tex jacket are ideal. Several layers of clothing are better than one thick one. Avoid cotton, since it retains moisture, and can therefore cancel out the benefit obtained from the other layers. Clothes made from man-made fibres will wick sweat away from your skin, keeping you warm. Furthermore, when washed, they dry quickly.

Legs:
Bring hiking trousers or tracksuit, Bermuda trousers, and Gore-Tex leggings: if it rains; water from your jacket will inevitably runs down your legs. If you do not have Gore-Tex, bring a poncho and leggings. Boxer-type underpants will help to avoid overheating.

Feet:
Cushioned hiking socks absorb impact better, as well as having better moisture-wicking and heat-retaining properties than other socks. They also last longer! Two or three pairs will be enough, because you can wash them quickly overnight.
Leather or Gore Tex high-cut boots or hiking shoes with semi-rigid Vibram type soles are essential, to give you sufficient grip on wet, slippery ground or stony paths.

For night-time, bring:
A warm sleeping bag, headtorch, a knife, fork and spoon (unless; like the Moroccans; you prefer to eat with your hands). Towel and toiletries.

Miscellaneous:
Baby wipes, wet wipes or similar may be useful.

In Your Daypack

You only need to carry things that you need during the day (photographic equipment, sunscreen, picnic, sweater, waterproofs, water bottle, etc). You can buy extra dried fruit, cake or cereal bars daily, if you need them.

Technical Equipment

Bring:
A backpack (35 or 40 litres) with wide straps and chest strap, for use as a daypack. Telescopic hiking poles (not essential, but recommended).

Personal First-Aid and pharmaceutical items:
This list takes account of the remoteness and adventurous nature of this trip, but should be checked with a doctor or pharmacist. It may include:

- Ointment for treating sunburn
- Analgesic (pain killer).
- Anti-inflammatory tablets or gel
- A broad spectrum antibiotic.
- Antispasmodic, antidiarrheal, and anti-sickness medication.
- Rehydration powders
- Indigestion tablets
- Plasters and bandages, compresses, tape, steri-strips
- Antiseptic cream
- Water purification tablets
- Eye drops
- Personal medication
